Students learn concepts to help them better realize the human figure. Lesson topics include proportion, value, line, construction of the parts of the body using simple masses, and simple anatomy.  Working with life models, students apply these concepts to their observational drawings.


Materials: 

  • Pencils (2H-2B), Assorted Vine Charcoal, Erasers (kneaded, gum, etc.)

  • 18x24 White Drawing Pad

  • Ruler

  • Plumb Line or string with weight knotted at the end.

Students eager to sharpen their skills will learn lessons in anatomy, proportion, palettes, mixing and practical color application to enhance their interpretation of the live model in oil paint. In addition, students will receive constructive feedback as their paintings develop during class time. Full class poses and multi-week poses will be provided with the intention of creating finished works for the student’s portfolio. The aim of this course is to provide a technical foundation that will help students achieve their artistic vision.
